Kitah Hey - Fifth Grade

Jews of the World and Jewish Life Cycles

Working on a poster

Kitah Hey will consider the patterns of Jewish life from birth to death by looking at the associated rituals and attitudes in different Jewish communities. There are variations in Jewish practice around the world. By comparing the practices, students will learn about the Jews of many lands: Sephardim, Mizrachim, and Ashkenazim. The students will gain an understanding of the differences and similarities among these different Jewish communities. This investigation will prepare the students for the in depth study of the people of Israel in the 6th grade. The students will discover how the Jewish holidays are celebrated in different Jewish communities.
