Celebrating the High Holidays 5783 With Kadima!
Whew. Here we are. It’s been two long years since we have been able to offer an in-person option for our High Holidays services, but the time has finally come for us to have an opportunity to be together in multiple ways. It is time for us to once again have the option to feel each other’s physical presence: the gravitational pull of another, the rustle of seats nearby our neighbors, the rest that comes when we lean into the magic of shared harmonies.
Our services this year will be a hybrid offering, including a Zoom option for those who can’t or don’t choose to attend in person. Adapting to COVID has taught the leadership of our community what many people – especially people with disabilities – had been telling us long before a pandemic: that in order to be an accessible synagogue, our offerings need multiple points of access. We are glad to be offering that through our Zoom services this year, alongside our in-person offerings at St. Marks on Capitol Hill, and we look forward to being with you however works for you best.
COVID Safety for the High Holidays:
1. For indoor events, participants will be required to show proof of vaccination if eligible, wear a tested, certified mask, and give each other distance as able. Capacity will be limited to the number of people who can fit into the space accounting for physical distancing.
2. Indoor events will only be held when King County Community Level is low or medium (per King County Department of Public Health). All events with an indoor attendance option will also have an online attendance option. If the Community Level becomes high, then indoor events will be canceled, and only online and outdoor events will be held. Though our general guidelines make mask usage optional when Community Levels are low, our guidelines require mask usage any time there are participants present who have access needs around decreasing potential COVID exposure. As there will be many participants at High Holiday services who have such access needs, we will be requiring mask usage even if COVID King County Community Level is low.
3. Our in-person events will be held at St. Marks on Capitol Hill. The cathedral nave, where we will have Rosh Hashanah morning, Kol Nidre, and Yom Kippur morning and day-time events, has an new air exchange system that replaces the entire volume of air 10 times per hour. While there is no HVAC system in Bloedel Hall, where we will be having our Erev Rosh Hashanah service, there are many windows, and we will be working hard to determine how to create effective ventilation in that space.
We are requiring proof of full vaccination status or medical exemption for all eligible attendees of in-person services. You may upload your vaccination documentation when you register, upload at this link if you're already registered, or bring your vaccination card/digital card with you. To find your Washington State digital COVID-19 vaccination verification record, click the link.

Childcare
Free childcare will be available for children ages 2 and up (somewhat flexible), pending securing a licensed childcare provider, on Rosh Hashanah morning and Yom Kippur morning. Childcare will *not* be available in the evenings. You must provide your child(ren) with a high quality mask, and they will be asked to wear it to the best of their ability (age 2 and up). Children must be vaccinated against COVID, or at least in the process of becoming fully vaccinated (with at least 50% of the shots having been administered). Childcare will be available from 30 minutes before the posted time that services start, to 30 minutes after the posted time services end. Please, however, pick up children promptly once services have ended, as well as being available as needed during services in case your child has a hard time.
Childcare providers ask to please send young people with no-nut snacks, lunch, toys and books - anything that will help them be comfortable and safe.
