Here were a few of our nominees:
· Familias Unidas por la Justicia – the farmworker union whose members struck and won a breakthrough contract at Sakuma Farms.
· Northwest Detention Center Resistance – undocumented-led, fighting detention and deportation in the northwest.
· Gender Justice League – committed to empower trans activists and allies to fight oppression based on gender & sexuality in Washington State.
· MAPS-AMEN (American Muslim Empowerment Network) – fighting Islamophobia and xenophobia in the Puget Sound and beyond.
They all are doing amazing work on the front-line of resistance! As we all navigate these times of tense political and social upheaval, it’s more critical than ever to publicly and strongly support those who are pushing back and educating against sexism, racism, Islamophobia and homophobia and for a universal belief that Black Lives Matter. It’s more urgent than ever to encourage and honor those who advocate for health care as a human right, who provide sanctuary and stand up for immigrants and workers or who lead efforts to protect and preserve access to clear water, clean air and safe land.
Please join us [one year to the day from the presidential inaugural] as we shine a light on an extraordinary person and their work in our communities of Seattle, the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Proceeds from the dinner will support the awardees’ work and serve as a major source of funding for Kadima’s year-round activities for social justice, sanctuary, education and religious freedom.
