B'mitzvah Madrichimot (Guides/tutors)
Position Overview
Kadima’s b’mitzvah (literally “in mitzvah”) program has several interconnected components, the most intimate and individualized of which is their year-long work with their madricheh (nonbinary Hebrew for “guide” or “mentor”). Other components of the program include:
A madricheh builds a deep connection with each student over time, grappling together with the meaning of the student’s Torah portion, teaching Torah blessings and chanting, and exploring what it means to be an emerging adult within and beyond the Jewish community.

- Enrollment and participation in the Ra’am and Barak classes at Kadima School, where Hebrew reading and liturgy study directly support b’mitzvah study.
- 6th and 7th grade family b’mitzvah preparation sessions.
- Student and family meetings with Rabbi David
- Creation and completion of a tzedek (justice) project.

Job Responsibilities

Your role involves working with your assigned b’mitzvah student and their family, generally on a weekly basis, to bring them through the b’mitzvah process from start to finish. You will be supporting the young person’s learning and development around liturgy, torah chanting, their d’var torah, and a mitzvah/tzedek project, both building on their Kadima School learning and integrating new curricular elements. You also commit to being as emotionally present and available as you are able for the b’mitzvah family throughout the process. Some students are matched with two co-madrichimot. Whether a match is with one madricheh or two, this is a collaborative position where you will work together with the student, their family, and the Kadima b'mitzvah team.

While an ideal candidate will have all of these skills and qualities, Kadima very much welcomes and values madrichimot (nonbinary plural) who possess some of these skills and qualities and are eager to learn the others alongside their first few students. New madrichimot will usually be paired with an experienced madricheh to mentor a student together.
