Social Justice with Kadima
Immigration Justice Committee
HISTORY of the Immigration Justice Committee
On May 1, 2017, Kadima member Dina attended a May Day immigration sanctuary presentation put on by the Church Council of Greater Seattle. Inspired by courageous immigrants and church members, she thought: Seattle needs a Jewish organization working publicly on immigration justice. In the year since, the wonderful Kadima sanctuary committee, along with Madrona Grace Presbyterian Church, the Church Council, and the Washington Immigrant Support Network, has spearheaded the creation of a Rapid Response Network for Central Seattle, Madrona and the Rainier Valley.
Rapid Response Network
What is a Rapid Response Network? A network of churches, synagogues, mosques, and temples whose members meet regularly and come to know and trust each other. We train volunteers from each faith group to come when called by the Network, when there is an ICE raid or a hate crime in our neighborhood. We are trained to observe, film, support and uphold due process rights of people ICE is trying to detain, or people who are being harassed or hurt. We are not called upon to do anything illegal. We are just called upon to stand up for our neighbors. Here is a story about a rapid response from November 2017.
You don’t have to be willing to come to an ICE raid or hate crime to be in this network!
To place your name on a list of Kadima members who would like to volunteer in some capacity for the Network, or to receive emails about immigrant justice news and events in the Seattle area, please email us at: [email protected]
Sign up with the Washington Immigrant Solidarity Network to receive frequent emails on immigrant justice work, or to report or be called upon to witness ICE raids.
Join us if you would like to co-create a space where you can get to know your neighbors who are Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, immigrants and allies of immigrants.
Join us if you would like to help plan educational presentations about immigrant justice.
