Chugim Offerings: Winter 2018
Chugim are an integral part of Kadima School. Hebrew for "activities," we use the word chugim to name the time during Kadima School when our young people and adults engage together in elective activities. They provide agency for our members all of all ages in their Jewish learning, journey, and community building - with opportunities to choose their desired topic of learning, or even offer something to lead themselves. Chugim are offered during Shabbat School - the first and third Saturday morning of the month - on a trimester schedule throughout the school year. The Kadima School faculty began leading chugim for young people and their families as part of Shabbat School in the fall of 2017, and since, we have opened the program to the wider Kadima community to participate in together.
These chugim are designed as intergenerational offerings that provide a chance for school families and greater Kadima membership to learn, create, and play together. We invite you to join us!

Jewish Test KitchenEvery week, we'll learn about foods eaten by Jews around the world, and make some of our own. We'll learn about some of the fascinating chemistry that occurs whenever we make these foods, and how we can use science to improve our cooking.
Each week will have a theme: a specific holiday, region, or food group. I'll bring pictures and/or samples of foods from the theme of the week, and then we'll focus on one specific food. We'll learn some fun facts or stories about the food of the day, and then talk about its preparation and learn about the science behind a specific step. Then comes the test kitchen part: we'll see how manipulating one variable in that step can result in different outcomes by cooking it in separate trial groups. Join us for some wacky and fun experiments... that might even be tasty also! |

Cultivating Wellness through Jewish PracticeWho knew Jewish practice could improve the quality of your life? Together we explore how Jewish religion, spirituality, tradition, rituals, and community can be an integral part of your personal healthcare plan. Each hour-long session weaves together gentle yoga-inspired movement, mindfulness practice and discussion, as well as encouragement to continue practices between sessions. Bring clothes you can move in, a yoga mat if you have it, and a journal if you’d like to take notes. Stay for the Kadima community lunch to practice mindful eating!
