And yet Nakba Day, the day that in 1948 was one and the same as the first Yom Ha'Atzma'ut, is in relation to the Gregorian calendar every year – May 15.
And thus this year, we have Yom HaZikaron, Yom Ha'Atzma'ut, and Nakba Day back-to-back-to-back this Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday coming.
Nakba means catastrophe. Atzma'ut means self-determination. May it be a week of both/and.
May this season bring us more proximity to those who observe these days of catastrophe, memorial, and self-determination in the coming week. May we all find ways to give each of these days our attention, right-sized and equitable. To right and repair, and to expand and bridge.
Na'aseh Shalom – let us make peace,
R’ David
