On July 13, Kadima’s board agreed to commit, together with Madrona Grace Presbyterian Church, Julia’s Place, and Liberation UCC, to offer sanctuary space for an individual or family at risk of deportation or family separation, endorsing this pledge:
As people of faith and people of conscience, we pledge to resist the newly elected administration’s policy proposals to target and deport millions of undocumented immigrants and discriminate against marginalized communities. We will open up our congregations and communities as sanctuary spaces for those targeted by hate, and work alongside our friends, families, and neighbors to ensure the dignity and human rights of all people.
This commitment is the first step on the journey. Our congregations will now have the opportunity to educate ourselves, plan logistics, and explore our personal, religious, and political motivations to resist repressive immigration policy.
